# Glossary
Running definitions for industry terms used in geolocal.io planning.
**Rule:** first use in a thread explains the term; after that the acronym is fine. Add new entries here when a term appears.
| Term | Meaning |
| :--- | :--- |
| **NAP** | **N**ame, **A**ddress, **P**hone — the core business identity fields. Local search (and AI assistants that lean on local listings) need NAP to be consistent across Google, Apple Maps, Bing, Yelp, the website, and any owned record. Mismatches confuse ranking and recommendations. |
| **GBP** | **G**oogle **B**usiness **P**rofile — Google’s local business listing (formerly Google My Business). Hours, categories, services, photos, and reviews owners manage for Maps / Search visibility. |
| **Apple Business Connect** | Apple’s tool for managing how a business appears in Apple Maps, Siri, and related Apple surfaces. |
| **Bing Places** | Microsoft’s local business listing for Bing and related Microsoft surfaces. |
| **Core listings** | Owner-facing term for the main places customers (and AI) look a business up. Prefer this over “citations” / “directories” with owners. |
| **Core 3** | The common US min-bar listing set: GBP, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places. Genre/market adds (Yelp, Facebook, TripAdvisor, vertical dirs) are separate. |
| **Discovery foundation** | Owner-facing name for tier 1: Core listings + NAP/hours/category/contact consistency (internally: “2017”). |
| **AI readiness** | Owner-facing name for tier 2: known-for / recommendability scorecard and structured presence when ready (internally: “2027”). |
