## 20260927-152020 session 20260926_102836_24ab5d
**user:** why is my nous research authrntication failing
**assistant:** Root cause is in `auth.json` — this is a refresh-token failure, not a key problem.
What the evidence shows:
- Nous Portal access token expired 2026-09-26 11:28 AM PT.
- On refresh, the portal rejected the refresh token. The recorded error:
- `last_auth_error.message: Invalid refresh token`
- `reason: credential_pool_refresh_failure`
- `relogin_required: True`
- timestamped 2026-09-27T14:54:39Z (7:54 AM PT today)
- Net result: `hermes auth status nous` → "logged out (No access token found)".
So the refresh token was invalidated server-side (revoked, expired, or a portal-side rotation) and Hermes can't renew on its own. This isn't something a config tweak or an API-key swap fixes.
The fix is re-authenticating via the OAuth device flow:
hermes auth add nous
That opens a browser, you sign in to the Nous Portal, and it writes a fresh access + refresh token. I can run it now if you want — it'll wait for you to complete the browser login. Want me to kick it off?
## 20260927-152622 session 20260926_102836_24ab5d
**user:** new key: sk-nous-Ng8jGYcH5n3sfkx4nNgQhxQyonWQQV34
**assistant:** Your key is valid — I tested it live. `GET /v1/models` with it as Bearer returned the full catalog (HTTP 200), and a real completion on `fireworks/ember-1` came back HTTP 200 with usage billed via `openrouter_catalog`. So the key itself works end-to-end against `https://inference-api.nousresearch.com/v1`.
The problem: it won't slot into the "nous" provider here. That provider is `oauth_device_code` auth only — the runtime resolver returns the OAuth JWT and there's no code path that reads a static key for it. That's why your recorded error is "Invalid refresh token" (relogin_required), not "bad key." The refresh token died and got quarantined; pasting a key can't replace it.
Two ways forward:
A. Re-auth OAuth (what the code itself recommends): `hermes auth add nous` → opens browser → you sign into the Portal. Restores your curated Portal models (gpt-6-luna etc.) and the full Portal integration. Needs your browser.
B. Use the key as a custom provider (base_url `https://inference-api.nousresearch.com/v1` + this key). Works immediately, but the model catalog is the raw aggregator (`fireworks/ember-1`, `perceptron/perceptron-mk1.5`, …) — not your curated `gpt-6-luna`, and no Portal product tags.
Which do you want? B is a config write I'll need your go-ahead on; A I can kick off now and it'll wait on your browser login.
## 20260927-153133 session 20260926_102836_24ab5d
**user:** why oauth? I was using my key before. what changed?
**assistant:** Short version: it changed on the Hermes side, not your account. The "nous" provider no longer authenticates with a static key — it's OAuth device-code now.
Evidence:
- The provider registration is literally `auth_type="oauth_device_code"` (plugins/model-providers/nous/__init__.py). There is no api-key path registered for "nous" — the runtime credential resolver only ever returns the OAuth JWT.
- Your auth.json still has a leftover `providers.nous.api_key` field (your old key) with `api_key_env: NOUS_API_KEY` — that's a vestige of the old API-key auth model. Nothing reads it anymore.
- `NOUS_API_KEY` isn't in any `.env` now.
- Your actual recorded failure is OAuth: "Invalid refresh token", relogin_required, 7:54 AM today. Hermes has been logging into the Portal via OAuth, its access token expired (Sep 26 11:28 AM), and the refresh token got rejected — so it quarantined the session and logged you out.
So the sequence is: at some point Hermes migrated "nous" from static-key auth to Portal OAuth. Your key silently stopped being the credential; OAuth took over (that's why `hermes status` was showing "Nous Portal ✓ logged in" rather than a key). Then that OAuth session died, and here we are.
I can't pin the exact commit from git — your local checkout's history is shallow (everything collapses to one squashed commit), and it's ~9,000 commits behind upstream anyway.
Your new key works against the raw inference API (I proved it with a live completion), it just can't be dropped in

**user:** apply these choices to all profiles
User correction during the turn: I am deleting ashbot and coach profiles
**assistant:** Done. Added a `nous-key` custom provider to 3 profiles — jimmy, leonard, verimail — skipped ashbot and coach since you're deleting them.
What's in it (24 models):
- DeepSeek — 15 (v4.1-flash, v4-pro, v4-flash, v4-flash-vision-exp, v4-flash-0731 + :US, v3.2, v3.1-terminus, chat-v3.1, r1 family, etc.)
- OpenAI Luna — 4 (gpt-6-luna, gpt-6-luna-pro, gpt-5.6-luna, gpt-5.6-luna-pro)
- Free — 5 (space-bunny-alpha, ling-3.0-flash-sante/fin:free, laguna-s-2.1/xs-2.1:free)
Verified: the key completes real requests on deepseek-v4.1-flash, gpt-6-luna, and the free models (HTTP 200). All three configs are valid YAML; each profile's active model was left untouched, per your choice.
Left out of "all free models" (flagged, not silent):
- meituan/longcat-2.0:free — 404 "no longer free"
- stepfun/step-3.7-flash:free, upstage/solar-pro4:free — 400 "missing tags" (need the Nous portal tags field a custom provider won't send)
Two things to know:
1. jimmy's active model is still the broken OAuth `nous` provider — I didn't switch it. Your Telegram/CLI agent stays on the dead auth until you point it at `nous-key`. Want me to switch jimmy's default now (e.g. to `nous-key` + `openai/gpt-6-luna`)?
2. The new provider won't show in a running gateway's `/model` picker until that profile's gateway reloads its config. Say the word and I'll restart the affected gateways.

**user:** 1 yes FIX ALL
User correction during the turn: omg WHY is this taking so long???
**assistant:** It's done. The slowness was real detours, not padding:
1. The Nous key couldn't just be dropped in — the "nous" provider is OAuth-only, so I had to prove that (code dive) and wire the key as a custom provider instead.
2. I verified each model actually completes a request rather than trusting the catalog — that caught 3 "free" models that are dead/need portal tags.
3. Two Hermes quirks cost turns: the patch tool refuses to write my own config.yaml (had to use `hermes config set`), and `gateway restart` doesn't actually kill a manual-process gateway (had to stop-then-start).
End state, all done:
- jimmy → `nous-key` + gpt-6-luna, gateway restarted, verified live ("OK" in 6s).
- leonard, verimail → `nous-key` provider added (24 models).
- ashbot, coach → skipped, yours to delete.
- leonard's gateway: config updated but its restart hit permission errors; active model unchanged so nothing's broken.
The only loose thread is leonard's permission errors. Want me to look at that or leave it?
## 20260927-155616 session 20260926_102836_24ab5d
**user:** why is it oauth only?
**assistant:** Two different questions hiding in that — the design reason, and the "but my key works" contradiction.
Why Hermes's "nous" provider is OAuth-only (grounded in the code, not guessing):
- It authenticates via device-code flow that mints a scoped JWT (`inference:invoke`) plus a single-use rotating refresh token. Reuse of a refresh token is treated as token-theft and revokes the whole session — that's an OAuth 2.1 design, not something a bare static key does.
- OAuth carries account tier + entitlement, and there's a `billing:manage` step-up scope. Model access is gated by your Portal tier, which a static key wouldn't signal.
- Requests get Portal product `tags` + a sticky `session_id` for routing/cache affinity, tied to the OAuth identity.
The contradiction, which is the important part:
- The inference backend is NOT actually OAuth-only. Your `sk-nous-` key works as a plain Bearer — I proved it (catalog 200, completion 200). The API accepts static keys.
- It's this Hermes build's "nous" provider that only implements the OAuth path — `auth_type="oauth_device_code"`, and its runtime resolver returns only the OAuth JWT. There's just no code path to feed it a static key.
So "OAuth only" is a Hermes-side gap, not an API restriction. That's exactly why the fix was a custom provider pointing your key at the same endpoint.
## 20260927-155756 session 20260926_102836_24ab5d
**user:** can you fix it?
**assistant:** Depends what "it" is:
- Your auth is already fixed — jimmy's on `nous-key` + gpt-6-luna and it works (verified live). The OAuth-only thing no longer blocks you.
- If you mean "make the actual `nous` provider accept my key natively, no custom provider" — that's a source edit to the Hermes install. I can do it, but it's a patch to a checkout that's 9,060 commits behind, and `hermes update` will clobber it. It buys you nothing the custom provider doesn't already give you.
The clean fix, if one exists, is upstream: newer Hermes may already support a static key for nous. I can check that and, if it's there, the answer is `hermes update` rather than a hand-patch.
So: want me to check upstream, or is the working custom provider good enough?
## 20260927-160606 session 20260926_102836_24ab5d
**user:** fix it so that the error I just showed you doesnt show up anymore
**assistant:** Fixed. The error is gone.
Root cause: the stale Nous OAuth state (the "already rejected" refresh token) was sitting in the global auth store at `...\hermes\auth.json` — not jimmy's — so the earlier `logout` never touched it. `hermes status` falls back to that file and kept showing the error.
What I did: removed the dead `providers.nous` + `credential_pool.nous` entries from the global store (both had no usable tokens, just the error marker and your expired Sep 9 OAuth login).
Now:
- `hermes status` → "Nous Portal ✗ not logged in" — clean, no error line.
- `hermes auth status nous` → "logged out".
- jimmy's actual model is unaffected (still `nous-key` + gpt-6-luna, working).
Backups written if you ever want to revert: `auth.json.bak-20260927-090501` and `auth.json.bak2-20260927-090553`.

**user:** is it possible to set up a profile thats only job is to review past sessions and spot ays to improve workflow, efficiency, et.
**assistant:** Yes — and you've actually floated this before (the "Grok Bot" meta-agent idea, Sep 15: read transcripts daily, write action items). It's a real, buildable profile.
The shape:
1. A dedicated profile — say `retro` — with no gateway, no bot duties, just a cron-driven reviewer.
2. Read access to past sessions. Each profile keeps its sessions in SQLite at `profiles/<name>/state.db` (`sessions` + `messages` tables — I've seen the schema). A small read-only script dumps the last N days of sessions across the profiles you pick, and the `retro` agent runs an LLM pass over that raw material. (`session_search` exists but is profile-scoped; for cross-profile review you read the other `state.db` files directly.)
3. Schedule via cron (daily/weekly). Its job: spot repeated mistakes, redundant steps, slow workflows, missed automation, and procedures that deserve to become a skill.
4. Output + loop. Write a dated report (vault file or a `status.md`), and/or email/Telegram you a digest. Findings that are reusable procedures get turned into skills; one-off facts go to memory. That's what makes it compounding — each run feeds the next.
Adjacent built-in worth knowing: `curator` in config does session *consolidation/summarization*, but that's compression, not critique. This profile is critique + recommendations.
The only real decision points before I build it:
- Which profiles' sessions it reviews (jimmy + leonard + verimail? all?).
- Delivery (vault file, email digest, or Telegram).

I want to build this, but I want it not to be stupidly designed and clunky and cumbersome like the Windows version is that you see in the screenshot. Talk about options that I might have to build my own widget that tracks mainly, I’m interested in GPU activity, disk usage, Wi-Fi, ethernet, CPU usage, I guess most of what’s on here. But I just hate the way. This thing is laid out. I think like most people do. First thing I want to check though is are there any GitHub repo around that address this problem? If so, let’s take a look at the best ones. If not, then clearly we need to build a widget that looks great is lightweight and does the job. Simple.
**assistant:** **Yes—there are real projects in this space. You don’t need to start from zero.** The strongest first one to try is [LiteMonitor](https://github.com/Diorser/LiteMonitor): its README covers CPU, GPU, RAM, disk I/O, and network speed; supports NVIDIA, AMD, and Intel GPUs; and offers horizontal/vertical layouts, transparency, themes, and metric toggles. Its latest listed release is v1.3.6 (May 16, 2026), under MIT. It’s the closest match to your requirements, though I haven’t run it or judged its feel on your desktop.
Other useful references:
- [kil0bit System Monitor](https://github.com/kil0bit-kb/kil0bit-system-monitor) — native C#/WPF + Win32, built around a compact taskbar/status-bar presentation. Its repo reports 224 stars and MIT licensing. Good reference for a lean, glanceable design; verify its GPU support on your AMD+iGPU/NVIDIA setup before relying on it.
- [widgetsack](https://github.com/gyng/widgetsack) — the most flexible overlay/editor approach: arrange and style widgets freely. But it monitors NVIDIA GPUs, not AMD, and its README says each active monitor takes at least 100 MB RAM and 40 MB VRAM—probably not what you mean by lightweight.
- [SysMonitorWidget](https://github.com/archi6912/SysMonitorWidget) — explicitly supports NVIDIA and AMD GPUs, with compact/expanded modes. It’s a very new, small project, and its README notes that disk enumeration requires administrator rights.
- [Cores](https://github.com/Levminer/cores) — a more complete hardware-monitoring ap

- App: `C:\Users\fight\AppData\Local\Programs\LiteMonitor\LiteMonitor_v1.3.6-win-x64\LiteMonitor.exe`; added a Start Menu shortcut.
- Installed official **PawnIO 2.2.0** for hardware sensors. Its signature and release checksum verified; Windows reports the driver running.
- LiteMonitor is running and responsive. Its first recorded history sample has CPU and memory readings.
I used the prebuilt release because this machine has no .NET SDK, so the cloned source wasn’t built. I haven’t confirmed live GPU, disk, and network readings from the overlay yet. Defaults select `DISPLAY6`, use vertical mode, and leave auto-start off; I left those settings unchanged.

**assistant:** There are GitHub solutions, but the trade-offs split between *looks* and *lightweight dual-GPU monitoring*:
- **Closest to the richer look: [XStat](https://github.com/Inside4ndroid/XStat-Hardware-Monitoring).** Its screenshots show a polished dashboard and drag-and-drop panel editor with gauges and graphs; it advertises 291+ sensor channels. The cost is complexity: Electron plus an ASP.NET hardware service, administrator access, and LAN/Android features you may not need. It’s an early project—4 stars, latest release v0.3.0 from April 10.
- **Best dual-GPU telemetry: [SidebarMonitor](https://github.com/WRCX/SidebarMonitor).** It explicitly shows both NVIDIA and AMD iGPU telemetry. But its actual UI is dense and utilitarian, not the visual style you’re after. The project is unsigned and its AMD sensor path requires accepting AMD’s SDK terms.
- **Best compact bar with graphs: [SystemBarIndicator](https://github.com/coldneuro/SystemBarIndicator).** Recent release, tested core, and an expandable history-graph view—but the bar is plain, and its code selects the first available GPU rather than showing both.
- **Most flexible widget editor: [widgetsack](https://github.com/gyng/widgetsack).** Strong visual customization, but its GPU sensor is NVIDIA-only and the project reports a higher memory footprint.
**My pick to investigate first is XStat for the visual design**, not as an automatic recommendation to install. I’d verify its GPU selection and actual overhead before suggesting it

**assistant:** Right—the email connection should be a close-out blocker, not just a general contact-form check.
- [ ] **Connect Larry’s new mailbox** (`larry@thornhillconstruction.net`, per the project file): activate it with the email provider and ensure he can send and receive.
- [ ] **Wire the website to it:** verify the displayed email link and route any contact-form submissions there.
- [ ] **Test end-to-end:** send a test message, submit the form if present, confirm delivery (including spam), then reply and confirm replies send successfully.
The live page shows that address, but that alone doesn’t confirm the mailbox or delivery is working.

**user:** heres a job for you: You are Jimmy, operator on Tony's PC.
GOAL
Stand up the garage-lecture factory the same way @princedoesai did it:
ComfyUI stills on Tony's PC + Hailuo / MiniMax H3 Partner Nodes in the cloud.
One lesson per short. Original scientist + intern cast. No Rick and Morty likeness.
MACHINE
This work runs on Tony's PC. Local GPU is for stills only. Video motion is Hailuo cloud.
Do not load H3, Wan, or Hunyuan video weights. Do not build a local video pipeline.
DONE when all of this is true and you can prove it:
1. ComfyUI on Tony's PC is 0.34.4 or newer.
2. Comfy opens on http://127.0.0.1:8188 (or Desktop equivalent). Not started with --disable-api-nodes.
3. Canvas search finds: "MiniMax H3 First-Last-Frame to Video", "MiniMax H3 Text to Video", "MiniMax H3 Reference to Video".
4. Folder tree exists and is used:
D:\garage-lectures\
00-bible\
01-scripts\
02-shots\
03-raw\
04-edit\
05-publish\
If D: is missing, use the largest data drive on Tony's PC and write the path in SETUP.md.
5. SETUP.md in that root records: Comfy version, install path, login state, credits state, template name that works, any blocker.
6. Bible stills saved:
scientist.png, intern.png, garage.png, sheet-both.png
16:9. Original characters. Not Adult Swim designs.
7. ep001 script + 6-shot list in 01-scripts\ep001.md.
8. Six first-frame stills in 02-shots\ep001\.
9. Saved Comfy workflow JSON: garage-i2v-hailuo.json
Load Image → MiniMax H3 First-Las
**assistant:** ## Done
- Updated ComfyUI from `0.28.0` to `0.37.4`; it responds at `http://127.0.0.1:8188` on the RTX 3060.
- Registered H3 nodes are present in ComfyUI’s `/object_info` registry. Saved a three-node H3 Turbo workflow JSON, configured for 6 seconds and MP4/H.264.
- Created the local Git repo and requested project folder tree on `G:`. Wrote the episode script.
- Generated 14 local still drafts and checked them. They are **not acceptable finals**: the renders are photorealistic and fail character/wardrobe continuity. The six shot drafts also lack the required exact filenames.
## Blocked
- Login and credit balance remain unknown. Desktop UI inspection timed out at the approval gate; no Comfy credits panel was inspected and **no paid video request was submitted**. So there is no Hailuo error to report.
- The existing Comfy checkpoint (`NovaRealityXL`) produced unusable continuity drafts. Qwen Image GGUF files exist under `sd-cpp`, but Comfy has no GGUF loader installed. I did not install one or download image weights.
- Canvas search was not interactively tested; node presence is verified through the API registry.
- Comfy’s upgrade migration rebuilt `user/comfyui.db`; the pre-migration backup remains at `C:\Users\fight\ComfyUI\user\comfyui.db.bkp` (151,552 bytes). I did not restore or alter it.
## Paths
- Project/repository: `G:\garage-lectures\` — local Git repo, branch `main`; no remote or commit.
- ComfyUI: `C:\Users\fight\ComfyUI`
- Workflow: `G:\garage-lectures\garage-i2v-

**assistant:** ## Done
- Updated ComfyUI to **0.37.4** and verified it responds at `http://127.0.0.1:8188` on Tony’s RTX 3060. It is not running with `--disable-api-nodes`.
- `/object_info` registers all three requested H3 nodes. The GUI canvas search itself wasn’t interactively checked.
- Created the local Git repo and required folder tree on `G:` (`D:` is absent; `G:` is the largest data drive).
- Generated and reviewed four 16:9 bible stills and six 16:9 first frames using ComfyUI and Apache-2.0 Z-Image-Turbo. The images use original 2D characters and a distinct garage. Minor pose differences remain in shots 05 and 06.
- Saved `garage-i2v-hailuo.json`. Its graph is Load Image → H3 First-Last-Frame → Save Video; it points to `shot01.png`, sets **MiniMax H3 Max Turbo / 768P / 6s**, and resolves to `03-raw/ep001/`.
- Wrote the episode script and updated `SETUP.md`.
## Blocked
- **No video clip has been submitted.** Comfy login and credit balance are still unknown; you said you’ll check Settings → User and Settings → Credits. I’ll wait for those values before the one paid test. The 6-second 768P price badge estimates **$0.3432**; it is not your balance.
- The local Qwen Image GGUF failed in the newly installed ComfyUI-GGUF loader with: `This model is not currently supported - (Unknown model architecture!)`. It was not used. Qwen Image 2.1 is research/non-commercial licensed, so I did not use it for publish assets.
- Comfy’s startup migration rebuilt `user/comfyui.db`; its backup remains at

**assistant:** Processed. The first downloader process stopped because the diffusion file already existed. Its SHA-256 matched the pinned Comfy-Org file; the completed run then verified all three Z-Image-Turbo assets. Nothing needs to be redownloaded.
ComfyUI is running, the 10 required still filenames exist at 1024×576, and the H3 Turbo workflow points to `shot01.png`. **No paid video job has been submitted.** Login and credit balance are still unknown, so I’m holding the one test clip. Send the sign-in state and visible Credits balance from Settings → User / Credits, and I’ll queue only that test.
